When Trust Is the Missing Piece: A Personal Lesson in Property Hunting

Last week, my son called me excited about buying his first property.

Naturally, I was thrilled.

But what happened next revealed something bigger than real estate.

It exposed the very reason so many businesses struggle to win clients, investors, and buyers.

The Story: A Lesson in Property Hunting

I decided to help my son scout developers.

Three offices later, here’s what I found:

  • Developer 1 showed me a model house but gave no timelines, no clarity, and no transparency.
  • Developer 2 walked me through plans but asked for a deposit years before delivery.
  • Developer 3 had a completed estate… but it was empty, like a ghost town.

All three had legitimate products.

All three had ambition.

But none of them built trust.

And that’s when it hit me: you don’t need more products; you need more trust.

The Real Estate of Trust

This doesn’t just apply to property developers.

It applies to you….. executives, founders, and professionals.

Your clients aren’t just buying your product.

They’re buying how you make them feel.

Trust is the real currency.

Without it, the best product in the world collects dust.

What This Means for Leaders

Whether you’re selling homes, software, or yourself on LinkedIn, remember this:

  • Transparency wins. Say the hard truths early.
  • Presence wins. Show up before your buyer shows doubt.
  • Consistency wins. Don’t pitch promises — prove them.

Because when trust is missing, your audience doesn’t just hesitate.

They walk away.

The Executive Blind Spot

Here’s the painful truth: many executives believe their product, role, or title speaks for them, but it doesn’t.

On LinkedIn, I see brilliant professionals with global experience… hiding behind job titles that say nothing.

No trust, no clarity, and no pull.

And here’s the real deal… what is invisible gets overlooked.

In today’s digital-first world, visibility and trust are the real deal-flow multipliers.

The Lesson

When my son asked, “So which developer should I go with?” my answer was simple:

“None. They all sold me hesitation, not confidence.”

And the same is true for your career or business.

If your online presence sells hesitation, people won’t buy.
